The prefabricated installation element can be used to create a wide range of design features on walls, not just in the bathroom, but everywhere in the home: The rectangular niches are available in three different dimensions and five attractive TRENDLINE colours and can be installed both vertically and horizontally, flush with the surface or protruding from the tiling. The finished powder-coated surface eliminates the need to install tile inside the niche itself, reducing tile cutting and simplifying installation while creating a sleek architectural storage feature. Its dimensions coordinate with standard tile formats to help maintain continuous grout lines around the bathroom niche, supporting a clean and cohesive appearance across ceramic tile, porcelain tile, stone tile, and other wall coverings.

Schluter-DESIGN-NICHE is made of powder-coated aluminium and comes with a height-adjustable frame made of anodized aluminium, a prefabricated KERDI collar for secure waterproofing and the KERDI-FIX installation adhesive. Installation is quick and easy, and the niche has the added bonus of being lightweight and waterproof. For a system-compliant design, all components of the set are glued together with the separately available sealing adhesive. The complete assembly also includes adjustable nuts and foam spacers that assist with accurate frame positioning and installation clearance. In addition to wet-area shower and bathroom applications, the niche is suitable for dry interior wall applications where integrated recessed storage is desired. DESIGN-NICHE requires no special maintenance or care, and its sensitive finished surfaces should be cleaned using non-abrasive cleaning products that are free of hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid.

For installation, locate and mark the desired niche position on the shower wall, confirm proper orientation with a level, and cut the required opening. Any punctures in the underlying KERDI-BOARD or KERDI waterproofing membrane within 2" (50 mm) of the opening should be patched before installation. Solid plywood or 2" x 4" blocking must support the anodized aluminum frame on all sides, while the supplied foam spacers provide the required clearance for the adjustment hardware. Once positioned, the knurled nuts are hand-tightened to establish the required niche depth, and KERDI-FIX is used to bond the spacers and frame before completely sealing the gap between the frame and niche body, including the corner relief cuts. After confirming that the bathroom niche remains level, Schluter SET®, ALL-SET®, FAST-SET®, or unmodified thin-set mortar can be applied with a Schluter®-KERDI-TROWEL to embed the KERDI-BAND frame and create a secure transition to the surrounding waterproof membrane for shower construction. The surrounding shower tile, bathroom tile wall, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, or natural stone can then be installed according to standard tile adhesive and tile installation methods for a finished waterproof shower system.
