Product Description:

Mapeguard WP 200 is a thin, flexible polyethylene sheet waterproofing membrane with laminated nonwoven polypropylene fabric on both sides. Designed for waterproofing, vapor control, and high-performance crack isolation, this premium tile membrane underlayment protects ceramic tile and natural stone installations in interior and exterior residential and commercial applications. The uniform, thin-profile membrane provides crack isolation for existing in-plane cracks up to 1/8" (3 mm), helping protect finished flooring from substrate movement without adding unnecessary thickness. It is suitable for modern bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, residential living areas, and commercial spaces such as restaurants, office buildings, galleries, malls, food courts, lobbies, and foyers.

The laminated fabric webbing on both sides is engineered to anchor Mapeguard WP 200 securely to the prepared substrate while creating a dependable bonding surface for tile, stone, and polymer-modified thin-set mortar. This bonded thin-set installation method creates a durable connection between the substrate, waterproof membrane, mortar, and finished tile covering. Its lightweight construction makes the membrane easy to measure, cut, position, and install on floors and walls, while its uniform thickness supports efficient installation and precise tile layouts. Tile can be installed immediately after the membrane is placed, making Mapeguard WP 200 an excellent waterproof membrane for tile projects with demanding renovation or construction timelines.

Mapeguard WP 200 provides dependable waterproofing and vapor protection for showers, shower walls, shower floors, bathtub surrounds, bathrooms, wet areas, and residential or commercial steam rooms. Its low water-vapor permeance of less than 0.5 perms under ASTM E96, Procedure E, makes it an effective vapor barrier underlayment for moisture-sensitive installations. The membrane exceeds ANSI A118.10-SV requirements for sheet-applied waterproofing membranes and ANSI A118.12 requirements for crack-isolation membranes. It also carries an ASTM C627 Robinson Floor Test service rating of Extra Heavy, ICC-ES Report ESR-3474, and IAPMO listing for use as a shower pan liner.

This waterproofing membrane can be used when renovating older floors to address existing in-plane cracks and isolate stresses caused by substrate expansion and contraction. It helps prevent lateral movement in approved plywood underlayments from transferring into finished ceramic tile, porcelain tile, marble tile, glass tile, stone tile, mosaic tile, and other bonded floor or wall coverings. Mapeguard WP 200 also offers a practical installation solution when tile must be installed over green or young concrete slabs before completion of the standard 28-day curing period. Suitable substrates include concrete, masonry block, brick, cement mortar beds, render coats, leveling coats, cement backer units (CBUs), approved plywood underlayments, radiant-heated floors, and properly prepared existing tile or other manufacturer-approved surfaces. Certain substrates are limited to interior dry-area applications and may require an appropriate primer or adhesive.

For reliable performance, the substrate must be structurally sound, stable, dry, properly prepared, and free of dust, oil, paint, curing compounds, or other materials that could interfere with adhesion. Concrete should be mechanically prepared to achieve the required surface profile, and chemical preparation methods such as acid etching or stripping should not be used. Substrate and ambient temperatures must remain between 40°F and 95°F (4°C and 35°C) before, during, and after installation. Areas incorporating drains must have a minimum slope of 1/4" per foot (6 mm per 0.30 m) toward the drain. Depending on substrate flatness and the requirements of the selected ceramic, porcelain, travertine, limestone, marble, agglomerate, glass tile, or natural stone covering, a self-leveling underlayment or fully cured mortar bed may be required before installing Mapeguard WP 200.
