Mapei Mapeguard 2 is a next-generation, lightweight, load-bearing premium membrane featuring a thin 40-mil (1-mm), fabric-reinforced peel-and-stick design that delivers crack isolation, waterproofing, vapor control, and sound reduction. This membrane helps to prevent existing or future in-plane floor cracks (with movement up to 3/8" wide) from transmitting through grout, ceramic tile, and natural stone. It addresses the existing cracks in the different tiled subfloors and prevents lateral stresses in plywood floors from being transferred to the finished floor tiles (bathroom tile, kitchen tiles). It contains 5% post-consumer recycled material, which provides excellent flexibility. When installed beneath ceramic tile, stone, or wood floor coverings, the sound-control underlayment also helps reduce impact noise from footsteps and dropped objects, along with airborne sound from voices, televisions, and other everyday household activity.
