The LATICRETE® 9235 Waterproofing Membrane Kit combines a self-curing liquid rubber polymer with a 6 in. x 75 ft. reinforcing anti-fracture fabric membrane, forming a flexible, seamless waterproofing barrier ideal for ceramic tile, stone, and brick installations. This system is engineered to protect wet areas such as showers, bathrooms, kitchens, steam rooms, spas, and balconies, offering superior moisture protection and crack isolation. The included Waterproofing/Anti-Fracture Fabric is a thin, flexible, non-woven material specifically designed for use with latex-based membranes. Its 75' (23 m) length and 6" (150 mm) width provide practical reinforcement for seams, joints, coves, corners, penetrations, and other areas exposed to concentrated installation stress. Full fabric application is required with 9235 Waterproofing Membrane and Blue 92 Anti-Fracture Membrane, while the fabric may also strengthen compatible HYDRO BAN®, HYDRO BARRIER™, Air & Water Barrier, WATERTIGHT™ Floor N' Wall, and 9237 Waterproofing Membrane systems.
The LATICRETE® 9235 Waterproofing Membrane Kit is a thin, load-bearing system designed to meet the rigorous demands of wet area installations. The liquid rubber polymer, when combined with the included anti-fracture fabric, forms a seamless, flexible membrane that bonds effectively to a variety of substrates, including concrete, cement mortar beds, cement plaster, brick masonry, and exterior glue plywood. Before application, installers should review the project layout and plan the sequence for waterproofing walls, floors, ceilings, corners, joints, and transitions. Reinforcing fabric should be precut to the required lengths, allowing approximately 2" (50 mm) of overlap at adjoining ends and sides. At door openings, the fabric should extend approximately 6" (150 mm) through the opening to maintain continuous waterproof membrane coverage. Individual pieces may be rolled after cutting so they can be positioned efficiently while the liquid membrane remains wet.
This system provides a reliable barrier against moisture infiltration and offers anti-fracture protection by accommodating minor substrate movements, thereby preventing cracks from compromising the integrity of tile or stone finishes. Ideal for both residential and commercial applications, the LATICRETE® 9235 Waterproofing Membrane Kit ensures long-lasting protection and peace of mind in moisture-sensitive environments. Cracks, joints, coves, corners, backer board seams, and changes in substrate plane should be pretreated before the main field application. A liberal coat of liquid is applied over the prepared area, followed by embedding the reinforcing fabric into the wet membrane and covering it with a second coat. At coves and corners, the 6" fabric may be folded in half and flashed approximately 3" (75 mm) up the adjoining wall. Gaps around pipes, lights, and other penetrations should be packed with compressible backer rod and an appropriate waterproof sealant before fabric reinforcement is installed around the opening.
Suitable for interior and exterior use on vertical and horizontal surfaces, the system accommodates substrate movement, preventing cracks up to 1/8" (3 mm) from transferring to the tile or stone surface. The liquid membrane applies easily with a paintbrush or roller, and the lightweight fabric simplifies reinforcement in coves, corners, and changes in plane. Non-flammable and fast-curing, the membrane is typically ready for finishes within hours, ensuring a durable and safe installation. For partial-coverage crack isolation, the treated membrane area should extend to a minimum of three times the width of the tile or stone being installed, following applicable TCNA Method F125 guidance for hairline cracks, shrinkage cracks, saw cuts, and control joints. When waterproofing is required in addition to crack suppression, the entire field must be treated and an additional liquid coat applied after the initial reinforced layer has dried. Movement joints require separate fabric looping and flexible sealant treatment so required movement accommodation is maintained. Newly installed membrane must also be protected from rain, standing water, and other moisture exposure for at least five days at 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity.
During the main application, the liquid membrane should be applied liberally over the substrate and all pretreated areas before the fabric is laid into the wet coating. The fabric should be smoothed to remove wrinkles and pressed firmly with a brush or roller until liquid visibly bleeds through the surface, confirming thorough saturation. Adjacent seams should overlap by approximately 2" (50 mm), while coves and corners should receive two reinforced fabric layers. After the top coat dries to the touch, typically within approximately one to three hours at 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity, a final liberal coat should be applied to seal the membrane. The completed surface should be inspected for pinholes, voids, thin areas, or other defects and corrected with additional liquid before tile adhesive, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, marble tile, stone tile, or brick finishes are installed. On interior vertical cement backer board and gypsum wallboard, full field fabric and the third liquid coat may be omitted where permitted, but all coves, corners, seams, and board joints must still receive the required pretreatment.
