ARDEX X 4™ LFT Large Format Tile and Stone Mortar is an ideal everyday polymer-modified tile and stone mortar that delivers reliable performance, versatility, and excellent value for a wide range of tile installation projects. Designed for both interior and exterior use, this water-resistant and frost-resistant thin-set mortar is ideal for installing large-format tile and stone, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, quarry tile, mosaics, pavers, and most moisture-insensitive natural stone tiles in residential and commercial environments. It can also be used for setting tile above and below uncoupling membranes, providing a versatile solution for modern tile and flooring installation systems.

This polymer-enriched mortar offers high adhesion, excellent deformability, dependable sag resistance, and strong load-bearing capability to help ensure secure tile placement and long-lasting results. Its creamy, easy-to-mix consistency allows for smooth troweling, efficient application, and improved workability, making it a preferred choice for professional installers, contractors, renovation projects, and DIY tile installations. ARDEX X 4 has an open time of up to 10 to 15 minutes, an approximate working time of 15 to 20 minutes, and a generous 3-hour pot life, providing ample flexibility and control for accurately positioning and adjusting tile during installation.

ARDEX X 4 is suitable for demanding wet, high-moisture, and temperature-exposed environments, including bathrooms, showers, steam rooms, swimming pools, fountains, water features, hot tub surrounds, kitchens, entryways, and other tiled areas. It adheres reliably to a wide range of common interior substrates, including exterior-grade plywood, cured concrete that is at least 28 days old, masonry, cement blocks, brick, cement mortar beds, leveling coats, gypsum fiberboard, sheetrock, autoclaved aerated concrete, poured mastic asphalt, heated screeds, foam backer boards, waterproofing membranes, and uncoupling membranes. It is also suitable for installing porcelain tile on horizontal exterior concrete or masonry surfaces.

For mixing, use approximately 5 to 5 1/2 quarts, or 4.7 to 5.2 litres, of clean water for each 40 lb. (18 kg) bag. For smaller batches, mix approximately 2.75 parts powder with 1 part water by volume. Approximate coverage per bag is up to 80 sq. ft. (7.4 m²) with a 1/4" x 1/4" square-notch trowel, 60 sq. ft. (5.5 m²) with a 1/4" x 3/8" x 1/4" square-notch trowel, or 40 sq. ft. (3.7 m²) with a 1/2" x 1/2" square-notch trowel. Coverage may vary depending on tile size, substrate condition, trowel angle, application method, and required mortar thickness.

ARDEX X 4 allows wall installations to be grouted after approximately 8 hours and floor installations after approximately 24 hours under suitable conditions. Available in gray and white, this zero-VOC mortar is supplied in a 40 lb. (18 kg) bag and has a shelf life of approximately one year when unopened and stored in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. ARDEX X 4 meets or exceeds ANSI A118.4 and ANSI A118.11 requirements, carries an ISO C2TE classification, and is eligible for the ARDEX Tile and Stone Installation Systems SystemOne™ Warranty in addition to the applicable ARDEX L.P.
