ARDEX X 3 PLUS LHT Large and Heavy Tile and Stone Mortar is a high-performance, polymer-modified mortar specially formulated for installing large format tile, heavy ceramic tile, porcelain tile, quarry tile, and most natural stone on floors and walls. Designed for tiles and stone with ungauged or varying thicknesses, this professional-grade tile adhesive provides dependable support, excellent bond strength, and outstanding coverage for demanding residential and commercial tile installations. Its non-sag formula helps hold wall tile securely in position, while its slump-minimizing performance supports large and heavy floor tile to help reduce lippage and create a flatter, more consistent finished surface.

Suitable for interior and exterior use, ARDEX X 3 PLUS can be applied over common properly prepared substrates, including concrete, masonry, cement backer board, exterior-grade plywood, gypsum surfaces, existing tile, uncoupling membranes, and anti-fracture membranes. This versatile thinset mortar is an excellent choice for bathroom tile, shower tile, kitchen backsplashes, entryways, patios, balconies, heated floor systems, and other home improvement or professional construction projects. It can be used to install ceramic tile, porcelain tile, quarry tile, granite, travertine, marble, and most natural stone finishes in kitchens, bathrooms, showers, hallways, foyers, dining rooms, and other interior or exterior spaces.

The easy-to-apply creamy consistency promotes smooth mixing, effortless troweling, and reliable mortar transfer beneath tile and stone. ARDEX X 3 PLUS is designed for thicker bond coats ranging from 3/32" to 1/2" after the tile is embedded, making it especially effective for large format tile and natural stone with uneven or ungauged thicknesses. It provides an open time of up to 30 minutes, a working time of approximately 15 to 30 minutes, and a generous 3-hour pot life, giving installers the flexibility needed to position, align, and adjust tile during detailed floor and wall installations. Grouting may begin after approximately 8 hours on walls and 24 hours on floors under suitable jobsite conditions.

For mixing, use approximately 5 1/4 to 6 quarts of clean water per 40 lb. bag, or mix smaller batches using 2.5 parts powder to 1 part water by volume. Approximate coverage per bag is 90 sq. ft. with a 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/4" square-notch trowel, 65 sq. ft. with a 1/4" x 3/8" x 1/4" square-notch trowel, or 45 sq. ft. with a 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" square-notch trowel. Actual coverage will vary according to substrate condition, tile size, tile profile, trowel selection, installation technique, and the amount of mortar required to achieve proper tile coverage.

Available in gray and white, ARDEX X 3 PLUS has a VOC content of 0 and meets or exceeds ANSI A118.4 and ANSI A118.11 requirements, with an ISO classification of C2 TE P1. Each 40 lb. bag should be stored unopened in a cool, dry location and protected from direct sunlight, with a shelf life of approximately one year when properly stored. The ARDEX L.P. Standard Limited Warranty applies, and the mortar is also eligible for the ARDEX SystemOne Warranty when used with qualifying ARDEX grouts and ARDEX caulks.
